The 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) initiative is a key component of the “No Child Left Behind” Act. It is an opportunity for students to enhance and reinforce academic lessons of the regular school day, while also allowing them to learn new skills and discover new opportunities after the regular school day has ended.
The focus of this program, reauthorized under Title IV, Part B, of the No Child Left Behind Act, is to provide expanded academic enrichment opportunities for children attending low performing schools. Tutorial services and academic enrichment activities are designed to help students meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading and math. In addition, 21st CCLC programs provide youth development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, technology education programs, art, music and recreation programs, counseling, and character education to enhance the academic component of the program.
Tampa ASAS 21st CCLC Grant
Through a generous grant from the FL-Department of Education’s 21st CCLC program, Tampa Bay ASAS is able to offer increased educational services at no cost to the students and their families at our program site, Memorial Middle School. The grant provides for educational supplies and academic staff for all participating students. The funding has allowed Memorial to greatly increase the student population size and scope of the activities offered. The 2016-17 school year marks the first year of this five-year initiative for Memorial Middle School.
After School, All Stars Tampa Bay, with the support of 21st Century Community Learning Centers will continue to provide programming to keep youth safe and to promote their success in school and life over the summer. This programming is offered at no cost to the student or parent.
